Our commitment is to lead by example. We have been working to incorporate environmental, social and governance (ESG) criteria into our business strategy and have seen progress in our work routines and senior management decisions.

EcoRodovias strives to create value in the ESG aspects in a balanced manner by constantly seeking to conceive, attract and run businesses according to highest ethical standards. For that, it adopts corporate sustainability policies and its practices follow specific guidelines.

The Company uses as a management tool the good practices recommended by diverse commitments, standards and rules, including market indexes, such as the Corporate Sustainability Index (ISE), ISO standards, agenda such as the UN Global Compact and Sustainable Development Goals, and reporting methodologies, such as the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) standards and the Integrated Reporting Framework of the Value Reporting Foundation (VRF).

Commitment to highway safety

The Company was a signatory to the “Decade of Action for Road Safety” (2011 to 2021), a campaign launched by the United Nations to reduce by 50% traffic accidents around the world. The Company achieved excellent results in the first decade and has undertaken to reduce accidents by 50% again over the next decade (2021 to 2030).

UN Global Compact and Sustainable Development Goals

EcoRodovias became a signatory to the UN Global Compact in 2014, in order to leverage its corporate sustainability practices, aligning operations and strategies with the 10 Universal Principles envisaged by the agreement, which address issues such as human rights, decent work, environment and anti-corruption practices.

In addition, the Company supports and strives to achieve the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDG). The SDGs are a series of guidelines aimed at ending poverty and protecting people in vulnerable situation, as well as the environment (water, land, flora, fauna and the climate). The compliance of companies and governments with these guidelines is paramount for global achievement of the targets of the 2030 Agenda.

To best contribute to the achievement of these goals, EcoRodovias selected its priority SDGs:

Na Mão Certa Program

EcoRodovias participates in the Na Mão Certa program organized by the NGO Childhood Brasil, which brings together companies committed to the Business Pact against the Sexual Exploitation of Children and Teens on Brazilian Highways.

EcoRodovias has been dedicating its internal and external communication channels to disseminate information and guide its employees, suppliers and partners on how to act as guardians of children and teens against sexual exploitation, and on preventing and handling such situations.

We all have to think about methods to solve this problem and always report any suspicious behavior. Calls are anonymous and can be made from anywhere in Brazil, from landlines or mobile phones.

Free & Equal Campaign

In 2020, EcoRodovias joined the UN Free & Equal program, a global UN campaign to raise awareness about homophobic and transphobic discrimination and violence, and promote greater respect for the rights of LGBTQIAP+ people.

EcoRodovias is the first company in Brazil’s highway concessions sector to join the campaign, strengthening its commitment to making its workplace increasingly plural and egalitarian.

CEBDS

The ESG agenda is increasingly gaining importance at EcoRodovias and to further strengthen it, the Company joined the Brazilian Corporate Council for Sustainable Development (CEBDS), a civil non-profit association of various companies which aims to promote sustainable development in the country through interactions with governments and civil society. By joining this initiative, EcoRodovias can participate in discussions on sustainability in Brazil and contribute to the formulation of policies and society engagement.
